The Siege of Acre was the first confrontation of the Third Crusade

The Third Crusade was an attempt by different European leaders to take back the Holy Land from Saladin in 1189. Saladin controlled forces from Egypt to Syria and he used those forces to reduce the Christian states and to retake Jerusalem in 1187. Then Henry II of England and Philip II of France stopped fighting against each other and lead a new Crusade into the Holy Land. Even though Henry II died Richard I took his place. Finally after they actually won something, they started fighting over the spoils of war and Philip left. Then on September 2, 1192, Richard and Saladin created a treaty so that Jerusalem would stay under Muslim rule but they would allow unarmed Christian pilgrims to visit the city. The failure of this Crusade would eventually lead to the Fourth Crusade in six years.
