Louis IX attacks Damietta

The Seventh Crusade was led by Louis IX of France in 1248. King Louis and his army were defeated and then captured by the Egyptian arm led by the Ayyubid Sultan Turanshah who was supported by the Bahariyya Mamluks led by Faris ad-Din Aktai, Baibars al-Bunduqdari, Qutuz, Aybak and Qalawun. After being captured the king and his men were held for a ransom of 50,000 gold bezants which is the sum equal to the entire annual revenue of France.
